Letter from Teacher

"That our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth; that our daughters may be as corner stones, polished after the similitude of a palace."

Psalm 144:12

Dear Parents,

Sixth grade is a joint endeavor with student, teacher, and parents putting their best energies into the year. You, as parents, are responsible directly to the Lord for you child’s education, so I invite you to assume an active part in his academic life. I, the teacher, act as your assistant and advisor in the education process. As your assistant, I welcome questions, comments, and discussions concerning your child. Also, as your advisor, I desperately need your trust, both personally and professionally.

Academically, emotionally, physically, spiritually – the Lord desires to mold your child into a person who will be prepared to serve Him – a person with whom you can be pleased and of whom you can be proud. Because we, teacher and parent, desire to be used by the Lord to accomplish this, I am looking forward to this year, anticipating what the Lord will do in all our lives.

In His service,

Brenda R. Boston

GOALS

Spiritual

1. Assurance of salvation in the heart of each child

2. Surrender of student’s will daily to the Lord’s will

3. Desire to be of service to the Lord

Emotional\Social

1. Development of ability to handle emotions in a Christ-pleasing way

2. Development of others-consciousness manifesting itself in unselfish and mannerly behavior

3. Growth of leadership qualities in the boys

4. Maturing of girls to become young ladies in attitude and behavior

5. Manifestation of proper respect for adults and peers

Academic

1. Development of study skills and habits appropriate for success in junior high

2. Provide a foundation in basic skills on which junior high studies may be built

SUGGESTIONS FOR PARENTS

1. Ask your child daily how school went that day.

2. Don’t take sides as you listen to your child – help him\her to think right about what he is saying.

3. If there is a problem, talk to the teacher about it.

4. Consistently support the teacher and the school.

5. Remember – the teacher is human. She will make

mistakes.

6. Check on your child’s homework regularly. Help him where necessary, but don’t do the work for him. Homework is technically his responsibility, but he is more likely to be responsible if you are interested enough to check.

7. Keep your child reading for FUN.

  1. Help your child plan long term projects and check his progress.

  2. Communicate with the teacher. A note is great for most things, but if you have something bad to say, say it in person at a scheduled conference.

10. Come to special activities at school.

11. Volunteer for projects at school.

12. Encourage your child to join at least one (or, better yet, all) of the special activities offered by the school.

13. Save notes and old tests to study for final exams in Bible, Math, and English in June.

(No midterm exams for sixth grade)

14. PRAY FOR THE TEACHER DAILY.
