Enrollment Policies

Introduction

West Chester Christian School admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs. The school administration does maintain the right to refuse admission to an applicant if they feel the school cannot meet the child’s spiritual, academic, social and/or physical needs. Each application is reviewed individually.

Families should plan to send all their school-age children, except four-year-old children, if WCCS can meet their needs adequately. Exceptions must be approved by the administration.

Procedures

Enrollment procedures include the following:

  1. Call, write or visit the school office for an application and information packet.
  2. Make an appointment to tour the school facilities.
  3. Complete the application and return it to the school office.
  4. Make an appointment for the administration to interview the prospective student and his parents.
  5. Pay the registration fee.
  6. Complete any required entrance testing.
  7. Complete and return all other required forms:
    • Request for Records form (if previously enrolled in a school).
    • Proof of immunization (see “Health Requirements Section”).
    • Completed Physical and Dental Examination Forms (see “Health Requirements Section”).

Notification of acceptance or rejection will be given.

All families whether enrolling for the first time or re-enrolling must complete the following forms:

  • Registration Form
  • Yearly Emergency Information Form
  • Financial Agreement
  • Doctrinal Statement
  • Parent Yearly Statement of Cooperation
  • Proof of Insurance
    • (The school maintains an insurance policy that will pay for health/medical claims as a “secondary” policy. Each child must show proof of personal or family health insurance.)
Spiritual Requirement of the Family

As stated in the Mission Statement, “WCCS is primarily a school for Christian young people from Christian homes. It is our desire to compliment those truths taught first in the homes and churches of our students.” Unsaved parents will probably find several things about the program and goals of WCCS with which to take exceptions and are, therefore, discouraged from seeking enrollment for their children.

Spiritual Requirement of the Student

While elementary (K/4-6th grade) students may attend West Chester Christian School and not claim to be saved, no 7–12th grade student may attend unless he claims to have asked Christ to save him.

Age Requirement of the Student

Applicants for K/4 and K/5 must be four and five years old respectively, before September 1 of the year they desire to enroll. All other students must have been promoted to be accepted in the next higher grade.

Academic Requirement of the Student

Generally, students who are two or more years behind in school will not be accepted. Entrance testing and/or cumulative records will assist the administration in determining an applicant’s acceptability. Gifted students are not accelerated by skipping grades. Enrichment programs are used within the standard classrooms. Students are allowed to participate in “honors” math programs in grades 5-12.

Behavioral Requirement of the Student

Generally, applicants expelled from another school, Christian or public, will not be accepted. Applicants involved with the civil authorities within the last twelve months will not be accepted.

Students in grades 7-12 are expected to sign and fulfill a “Student Cooperation Agreement.”

Health Requirements

The purpose of the health care program at West Chester Christian School is to aid the parents in meeting the health needs of the child as well as meet the legal requirements of the government in these areas. The services of the health program of the school are not to usurp the rights and responsibilities of the parents or legal guardians. However, the school may be able to provide some services at a great savings of time and money for the parents.

The following checks will be completed at WCCS:

  • Height and weight check – all students every year
  • Vision screening – all students every year
  • Hearing screening – grades 1, 2, 3, 7, 11
  • Scoliosis screening – grades 6, 7

The following immunizations are required for all students in PA schools:

  • DTP, DTaP, DT or TD –four or more properly spaced doses with one dose administered on or after the fourth birthday.

The following examinations are the responsibility of the parents:
